FAQ

We know Medicare can feel overwhelming.

Here are the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, give us a call or send a note. Every situation is a little different, and a straight answer never costs you anything.

1Getting started
Yes. We're paid by the insurance carriers when you enroll, never by you. There's no fee for our advice, even if you don't end up enrolling.
A short intro call, then a longer meeting where we go over your options side by side. If you're ready, we handle the enrollment with you. The timing varies a lot from person to person, and if we need to wait on Medicare to process something, we wait together.
Whatever's easiest for you. We'll work out a time and place that suits you when we talk. Meetings are always at no cost.
Yes. We have access to many Medicare carriers and the options they offer, so we can better serve you. We work for our clients, not for any specific insurance company.
2Medicare basics
Honestly, it depends on your situation. Your Initial Enrollment Period is the seven months around your 65th birthday: three months before, the month of, and three months after. That covers many people, but some have other circumstances that can change when Medicare actually makes sense for them. We'll look at your situation with you and help you decide when to enroll.
You may be able to delay Part B without penalty if your employer plan qualifies. We'll review your specific situation, look at your employer coverage and Medicare side by side, and make sure you never miss an enrollment period or face an unnecessary penalty.
A Supplement (Medigap) pairs with Original Medicare to cover most out-of-pocket costs and works with any Medicare-accepting doctor. Advantage is an all-in-one plan, often with extras like dental and vision, but with networks. Both can be great fits. It depends on your doctors, your budget, and your travel.
3Plans & coverage
You can change plans during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7) and during certain Special Enrollment windows. You may also be able to switch mid-year if you have a major life change, like moving, the loss of a spouse, or a new chronic diagnosis. If something like that happens, give us a call and we'll make sure you're set up the best we can.
Once a year, around AEP. Drug formularies and plan benefits change every year, so even if you love your plan, a quick review is worth it. The same goes if you have a significant health event or you move. Give us a call so we can plan ahead and use any enrollment periods that may be available to you.
4Caregivers & family
Absolutely, we encourage it. You're welcome to bring an adult child or trusted friend. Two sets of ears help, and we'll make sure everyone's questions are answered.
Yes. We regularly help couples plan side by side, whether one of you is already on Medicare and the other still has work insurance, both of you are turning 65 in the same month, one of you needs a Pennie™ plan while the other goes on Medicare, or any combination in between. There are a lot of variations, and we'll sort through them with you.
5Pennie
Yes. We help individuals and families compare Pennie marketplace plans, estimate subsidies, and enroll. The same no-cost, no-pressure approach.
APTC stands for Advanced Premium Tax Credit. It's a federal subsidy that lowers your monthly premium on a Pennie plan if you qualify based on your household income and size. The credit is paid directly to the insurance company each month, so your bill is lower from day one. We'll estimate what you'd qualify for when we compare your options together.
6Location
All of Lancaster County and much of Central Pennsylvania, from Lancaster, Ephrata, Lititz, and Manheim to Lebanon, Hershey, Harrisburg, and York. We can meet whatever way works best for you.
We'll agree on a time that suits you and go through your options together, at your pace. Bring a spouse, adult child or caregiver if it helps. There is never a cost.
